China’s growth, both economic and in aging, is nothing new. And Forbes has taken note of companies emerging to meet the needs of the Senior Care landscape, including Direct Supply.
“A variety of forward thinking technology and senior care supply companies have begun to work in China, which happens to be why American company Direct Supply, the largest provider of products and integrated services to the US senior care industry, has invested resources positioning its China business to take care of both domestic and international senior care operators who are building new facilities.”
The article further explores the emerging roles of several companies, including Direct Supply partner Changcheng Property Group, and the opportunities ahead in China’s evolving Senior Care market.
First Sino-U.S. Joint Nursing Home Opens in Beijing
The message from China is clear: investment from abroad is welcome. On Wednesday, August 21, 2013, the privately run L’Amore-Kaijian nursing home opened in southeastern Beijing, jointly run by investors from China and the U.S. It’s the first joint venture of its kind in the capital – part of China’s encouragement of more foreign enterprises to invest in its senior care sector.
With China’s over-60 age group set to hit 221,000,000 in two years, the government is hoping to find 2.7 million more beds in two years. This large number presents a valuable market opportunity for private enterprise and investors like the people behind L’Amore-Kaijian, who are hoping this kind of care home will take off in China.
Direct Supply is proud to have supplied many of the products in the new nursing home.
Direct Supply’s Ongoing Support for Habitat for Humanity Helps Propel 2013 Age-Friendly Housing Project
Habitat for Humanity China kicked off its Age-Friendly Housing project in 2010 and has since renovated 119 homes with an additional 60 renovations planned for this year. The 2013 project is scheduled to commence this June with huge support from the Shanghai community.
Shanghai’s population is aging rapidly, and many elderly residents live in poverty-level housing. In-home falls are one of the leading causes of death among Shanghai senior citizens, and these accidents are entirely preventable with homes designed specifically with the needs of seniors in mind.
Habitat for Humanity China is optimistic about changing the lives of senior citizens for the better – making their homes safer and more comfortable as they age. According to Kester Yim, Habitat for Humanity’s managing director in China, “Direct Supply’s continuous support since 2011 has allowed HFH China to provide elderly residents of Shanghai with specialized and high quality home products … And with visions that complement each other so fittingly, we anticipate a long-lasting and fruitful partnership between the two organizations.”
